Commenting on the results, Martin Barrett, Managing Director for St.George Bank QLD said: "These results show strong momentum for the St.George Bank brand in Queensland we've continued to achieve strong deposit and lending growth whilst maintaining market leading customer satisfaction and advocacy scores.

"Queensland is a major focus for St.George and we're planning significant investment in the State. This includes increasing employee numbers with up to 30 new roles over the next 12 to 18 months and expanding our branch numbers and ATM networks by 10% to ensure optimal customer convenience. We have plans to open up to 8 new St.George Bank branches in Queensland in 2010 and 2011," said Mr Barrett.

"Further, there are enormous growth opportunities in Queensland and assisting customers in the growth corridor regions of Brisbane North, the Sunshine Coast and the CBD of Brisbane will be a priority. These regions are benefiting from the 'flight to lifestyle' trend of recent years and Queensland's sound population growth, which at 2.6% is well above the national average," continued Mr Barrett.

St.George Bank in Queensland has also continued to support local communities by way of charity donations ($1.5 million donated to QLD children's charities in the past 18 years) and brand sponsorships such as the Brisbane International Film Festival.

"These initiatives mean that local QLD communities benefit directly. St.George will provide a compelling alternative to the Big Four. We're big enough to service all of our customers' needs but small enough to provide very personalised and localised financial solutions," said Mr Barrett.
