Ansaldo STS wins 2010 Best Driverless Metro Award for Copenhagen Metro
The Copenhagen Metro
which used the driverless system
developed by Ansaldo STS has
won the awards for the
‘Best Driverless Metro’ and ‘Best Metro’
in the 2010 Annual Metro
Awards.
The awards ceremony,
held in London on 23 March
2010,
recognised
the leaders and
innovators in the global Metro Rail industry.
In operation since 2002, the Copenhagen Metro was a turnkey project fully developed by
Ansaldo STS which included all electro mechanical systems, engineering, systems integration
and vehicles.
Ansaldo STS was recently awarded a five year extension contract worth AUD 284 million to
continue to operate and maintain the Copenhagen Metro with the option to extend the contract
for a further three years.
The Copenhagen Metro operates 12,000 services daily. In 2009 it achieved a punctuality rate
of 98.6 percent and a total of 50 million passengers used the service.
This is not the first time Ansaldo STS has been
recognised
for the innovation and
performance of the Copenhagen Metro, which was also named ‘Best Driverless Metro’ in
2009 and ‘Best Metro System Worldwide’ in 2008.

since 1995, and employs more than 1,100 staff
in offices in Brisbane, Newcastle, Sydney,
Melbourne, Perth and Karratha.
Globally
