Toyota Australia Drives Sustainability Leadership

The launch of the locally built Hybrid Camry, the V6 Aurion being named Australia's Best Large Car for the third year in a row and the development of new community partnerships highlighted another year of Toyota Australia's sustainability leadership.

The company's 2010 Sustainability Report released today highlights how Toyota Australia and its employees contributed to the sustainability of the company, environment and community in 2009-2010.

President and CEO Max Yasuda said the company's sustainability achievements spanned all areas of Toyota Australia's operations.

"Toyota Australia employees across Australia are embracing sustainability to guide the way we design and develop our vehicles, run our business, invest in and partner with our local communities, work with our suppliers and customers, and engage and develop our employees," said Mr Yasuda.

"The report reflects our efforts to further integrate sustainability across all our operating arms during a challenging business environment. It demonstrates how we are building a sustainable business, and provides real data to allow for meaningful measurement of Toyota Australia's benefit and impact."

He said that one of the year's major highlights was the launch of the locally-built Hybrid Camry, which uses approximately 30 per cent less fuel than a conventional Camry.

Other highlights of Toyota Australia's sustainability performance during the reporting period include:

* Toyota Australia being named the best selling brand in Australia with a market share of 21.4 per cent.
* Winning the Manufacturer of the Year Award and the Exporter of the Year Award at the Manufacturer's Monthly Endeavour Awards in 2009.
* Contributing more than $ 2.5 million to the community through a range of national and local programs.
* The Altona manufacturing plant decreasing water use by 28 per cent.
* The IT department reducing its carbon emissions by 19.6 per cent.
* Launching the Toyota Environmental Dealership program to help the Dealer network reduce its environmental footprint.
