Shoppers cross the finish line at 36-Hour Seafood Marathon

Sydney Fish Market has sold its last kilo of seafood before Christmas, with doors closing on its 36-Hour Seafood Marathon at 5pm.

Louise Nock, Marketing and Communications Manager said, "It's been a bumper 36-Hour Seafood Marathon for retailers. Sydney-siders also enjoyed the benefits of additional parking at Sydney Secondary College.

"With all the oysters sold, Sydney Fish Market predicts a baby boom in 2010."

Since 5am Wednesday, 23 December, Sydney-siders have purchased more than 850 tonnes of seafood.

Nearly 100,000 shoppers descended on Sydney Fish Market during the event, with prawns, oysters and Snapper among the most popular choices.

Stocking up on delicious items for Christmas barbecue seafood feasts and cold seafood platters, during the event shoppers have purchased approximately:

*200 tonnes of Snapper
*180 tonnes of prawns
*1.6 million oysters

After the 36-Hour Seafood Marathon, retailers at Sydney Fish Market will take a break for Christmas Day and will reopen at 7am on Boxing Day, Saturday 26 December.
