MEDIA RELEASE

BREAK UP YOUR JOURNEY THIS HOLIDAY
SEASON AT DRIVER REVIVER SITES
To help drivers stay alert at the wheel this holiday season, the RTA is reminding people to
stop, revive, survive at Driver Reviver sites across the state.
A great way to help break up the trip is to stop at any of the 71 Driver Reviver
sites operating during the Christmas holidays, an RTA spokesperson said.
Some sites operate almost continuously right through the holidays -
from early December
to Australia Day in January.
Driver Reviver is a community-based program that has been operating for more than 20
years to help stamp out driver fatigue in busy holiday periods.
It is sponsored by Bushells
Tea and Arnotts and supported by the RTA.
Almost half a million people stop every year to have a free cup of tea and a biscuit and to
stretch their legs in a safe and welcoming environment.
The Driver Reviver volunteers, drawn from community organisations like the Volunteer
Rescue Association, State Emergency Services and Lions Club International, will make
you welcome and are committed to help you fight driver fatigue.
During
the six weeks of the holidays, Driver Reviver volunteers in NSW will serve up to
250,000 cups of Bushells' tea and coffee and 400,000 Arnotts' biscuits.
Drivers should also make use of the States rest areas, to make sure they take a break
every two hours. Motorists should plan their journey, allowing plenty of extra time to get to
their destination.
Always try to allow plenty of extra time on the road in case there are delays, especially on
Saturday and Sunday December 26-27 when traffic on all major highways is expected to
be high as people travel to visit relatives and friends, the spokesperson said.
Travel outside peak periods where possible and remember to check the RTA Traffic
Information Line on 132 701, tune into local radio
stations
for regular traffic updates and
watch out for roadside message signs advising of any delays ahead.
