New State President is Australias Youngest, Flags Changes in Public
Speaking
The National Speakers Association of Australia (NSAA) has appointed Alicia Curtis as its
WA State President. She is the youngest State President in the organisations 23 year
history, taking over from David Koutsoukis, who is to become National President.
Alicia is currently 26 years old and started her professional speaking and training
business when she was 19, having co-founded the Kids Helping Kids Conference with
three classmates when she was 13 years old. At 21 she contested a seat in the Senate
of the Australian Federal Parliament as an independent candidate.
Currently, Alicia delivers leadership training and mentoring to emerging leaders and still
is active in a number of not-for-profit community projects.
Alicia has received many awards for her community work and has been heavily involved
in the National Speakers Association of Australia, a body which aims to help
professional speakers build successful speaking businesses.
She is a past recipient of the national Kerrie Nairn Scholarship for Public Speaking,
established to further the professional development of a rising public speaker. The
current scholarship winner, Jason Fox, is also a West Australian.
Alicia takes over the WA Chapter at a time when the public speaking industry is in
transition. There are some exciting new trends happening in our industry at the
moment, including social media and the growth in online conferences and e-learning.
Well be making sure our members are up to date with these developments and have the
knowledge to integrate them into their businesses.
A number of people speak professionally but dont belong to our organisation. What
they miss out on is the zeitgeist of the industry as well as specific training and
networking that results in a lot of shared learning. Its helping many people expand their
business.
We have a very strong and diverse chapter of professional speakers in Western
Australia. The WA Chapter is likely to have a disproportionately strong representation at
the National Convention on the Gold Coast in 2010.
