The Commonwealth Bank Offers Cricket Grants Across Australia

The Commonwealth Bank today opened applications for its inaugural Grants for Grassroots Cricket program that will provide 200 local cricket clubs across Australia grants worth $1,750 each.

Each grant includes $1,000 cash and $750 worth of equipment, including a shade marquee, two market umbrellas, 200 water bottles and 50 field markers.

Barbara Chapman, Commonwealth Bank Group Executive, said the Grants for Grassroots Cricket program is just another way that the Commonwealth Bank is making a positive impact in Australian communities.

"With over 10 million customers, 1,000 branches and 40,000 employees around Australia, the Commonwealth Bank is undeniably part of every Australian community.

"Cricket is the soul of the Australian summer and one of Australia's favourite pastimes and the Commonwealth Bank is determined to support what's important to the Australian community," she said.

The Bank is the longest standing sponsor of Cricket Australia, now in its 22nd year, with support extending from the national teams, right through to community cricket including sponsorship of local clubs, associations, and country cricket. The Bank also sponsors the Imparja Cup, the national Indigenous cricket competition held in Alice Springs each year.

"As well as supporting the needs and goals of our customers, we as an organisation support community initiatives across many areas, including sport, financial literacy, Indigenous programs, welfare, health, the environment and the arts," she said.

Australian Cricketer Mike Hussey said the Commonwealth Bank Grants for Grassroots Cricket program is an excellent program in support of cricket clubs around Australia.

"These grants will provide the essential funding needed by many cricket clubs around Australia. Assistance like this provides great opportunities for a diverse group of Australians. Cricket is more than a sport for many Australians, bringing communities together in a fun and interactive way," he said.
