Travelex and EFTEX Deploy Foreign Currency ATMs at Sydney Airport

For the first time international travellers can access foreign currency through Automatic Teller Machines (ATMs) at Sydney Airport.

Travelex, the world's leading provider of foreign currency exchange solutions, has announced the successful deployment of Multi-Currency ATMs at Sydney Airport, following a close collaboration with EFTEX. Leading Australian transaction processor EFTEX is driving the ATMs and processing transactions on behalf of Travelex, using "state of the art" payments software. The service is the first of its kind in Australia and offers real-time transaction processing to dispense foreign currency via ATMs, delivering a new convenient self-service channel for travellers.

Following a pilot roll-out of Multi-Currency ATMs in Brisbane, Melbourne and Perth Airports, the major installation of over 30 ATMs was completed at Sydney Airport during October. The ATMs operate 24 hours a day and offer a range of currencies including US Dollars, New Zealand Dollars, Euro, Thai Baht, Singapore Dollars, British Pounds, Japanese Yen and Australian Dollars. Further roll-outs will include installations at Canberra, Adelaide, Darwin and Gold Coast Airports to complement Travelex's strong retail presence, with a plan for over 100 ATMs to be operational in Australia by early 2010.

The project took only six months from concept to initial installations, and is a result of the close collaboration between Travelex and EFTEX.

securing a bank acquirer for the project, gaining the necessary support from Australia's card and banking community to ensure acceptance of the Multi-Currency ATMs.
