AIPM Joins International Association
Sunday, 27 September 2009, Dublin, Ireland: The Australian Institute of Project Management (AIPM)
today became a member of the International Project Management Association (IPMA). In doing
so, AIPM becomes the second largest member of the IPMA. Australias membership of IPMA now
brings the number of member countries to 48, covering all continents.
AIPMs membership application was approved at the IPMA Council of Delegates meeting held in
Dublin, Ireland on Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 September.
Also at that meeting, the IPMA agreed that its 2011 World Congress would be hosted by the AIPM.
The Congress will be held in Brisbane in October 2011 at the Brisbane Convention and
Entertainment Centre.
Dr Bill Young, AIPM National President, said: These two decisions made by the IPMA put Australian
project management on an international footing second to none, giving us a strong voice within
the international project management community.
Hosting the World Congress will allow AIPM to showcase the world class skills of Australian Project
Managers.
He added The benefits to AIPM members from our membership include international recognition
of their membership. We will also be working closely with IPMA to achieve international recognition
of the RegPM certification that our members have under AIPMs Professional Competency
Standards.
The AIPM team which prepared the membership application and proposal to host the World
Congress comprised Bill Young, David Hudson (Queensland Chapter President) and Ian Baxter
(General Manager). They also represented the Institute at the IPMA meeting in Dublin.
