Ansaldo STS wins contract to manage Copenhagen Metro
Ansaldo STS’ 14 year partnership with Metroselskabet to continue
Contract worth approximately EUR 180 million (AUD 284 million)
Ansaldo STS (STS.MI) has won the contract to operate and maintain Copenhagen's
driverless metro system.
The five year contract is worth approximately EUR 180 million (AUD 284 million) and there
is an option to extend the contract for a further three years.
This continues the successful business partnership between Ansaldo STS and
Metroselskabet, established in 1996 when Ansaldo STS won the tender to provide
engineering, systems integration, rail electrification equipment and vehicles for
Copenhagen’s driverless metro system.
The Copenhagen Metro operates 12,000 services daily. In 2009 it achieved a punctuality
rate of 98.6% and a total of 50 million passengers used the service.
Ansaldo STS has been responsible for the management of the Copenhagen Metro since it
commenced operations in October 2002, and for the past three years system
maintenance has been undertaken by Metro Service, a company shared by ATM Milan.
The Ansaldo STS/Metroselskabet partnership has proved to be an award winning one.
In
2009 the Copenhagen Metro was named “Best driverless metro”, and in 2008 was
awarded “Best metro in the world” and “Best metro in Europe”.
From Italy (Rome Metro Line C, Milan Metro Line 5) to Taiwan (Taipei Circular Line), from
Greece (Thessaloniki and Brescia Metros) to Saudi Arabia (Riyadh Women’s University),
Ansaldo STS’ expertise in driverless rail systems is now being applied worldwide.
