Ansaldo STS wins order worth EUR 12 million from Trenitalia


Ansaldo STS will provide maintenance services for the on-board signalling system on 32

high-speed ETR (Elettro Treno Rapido) 500 trains.


Ansaldo STS, the lead bidder of the temporary consortium set up with Alstom Ferroviaria,

has acquired a multi-year maintenance contract from Trenitalia for the on-board signalling

system on 32 high-speed ETR 500 trains.


In total, the contract is worth EUR 25 million, and the portion pertaining to Ansaldo STS is

EUR 12 million.


In detail, the maintenance and assistance services relate to the safety and signalling

systems designed and built by Ansaldo STS in accordance with the European standard

(ERTMS L2), which are fitted on the ETR 500 trains.


The assistance services will be provided on-site and remotely, taking advantage of the

high technological standards that will bring benefits to Trenitalia’s regular commercial

service on high-speed trains.


Note for editors

The European Railway Traffic Management System (ERTMS), level 1 and 2, was

designed to create interoperability between railway lines. Its aim is to provide the

European rail industry with a standard for the development of signalling and railway traffic

control systems, able to ensure more efficient use of the network, increased capacity and

greater safety.


ETR 500 (Elettro Treno Rapido 500) is a family of Italian high-speed trains introduced in

1993.
