Cable&Wireless Invests for Growth in Japan
TOKYO, Apr. 7 /PRNewswire-Asia/ --
Cable&Wireless Europe, Asia & US (EAUS) has made strategic investments in Japan to expand its world-
class network infrastructure, build on its partnership with SOFTBANK TELECOM and significantly grow its
portfolio of value-added telecommunications solutions for customers here.
The investment includes enhancements to Cable&Wireless' Points-of-Presence (PoPs) in Osaka, Tokyo
and Yokohama. The Osaka PoP is engineered to be physically separate from the other PoPs in Japan, with
access to a completely different set of cable systems to connect to Asia and the United States. This
enhanced resilience and capacity in to and out of Japan is crucial, providing diversity for multi-national
companies in the event of natural disasters or sub-sea cable breaks.
In addition, Cable&Wireless' has upgraded its network to run across a next-generation Multi Service
Platform (MSP) in Japan, increasing the company's capability to deliver next-generation network services
which improves network performance and reduces cost of business for customers.
Cable&Wireless' investment for growth in the region also means that it has increased the number of sales,
pre-sales and service delivery professionals based in Japan.
Nick Lambert, Managing Director Worldwide & President of Asia Pacific at Cable&Wireless EAUS, said:
"We've been investing for growth throughout Asia for the past few years. Having a strong presence in Japan
is integral to our strategic vision to deliver world-class solutions & service experience to our customers in this
key market."
Cable&Wireless and SOFTBANK TELECOM have a technical Network-to-Network Interface (NNI) in
Japan.
Koji Ishii, General Manager, Global Business Unit of SOFTBANK TELECOM said, "We are very happy to
support Cable&Wireless' strategic investment on the new IP platform in Japan, which would reinforce its
capability in the region and provide much benefit to its end customers."
Nick Lambert, Managing Director Worldwide & President of Asia Pacific at Cable&Wireless EAUS, added:
"Our successful partnership with SOFTBANK TELECOM gives us unique capability to meet our customers'
need for value-added telecommunications services in to and out of Japan."
SOFTBANK TELECOM has a world-class domestic network, long-standing relationships with blue-chip
Japanese multinational firms and a proven track record for delivery.
