Chisholm community multimedia projects highlight student talents
Several community organisations have benefited by the ingenuity of Chisholm Cranbournes
Multimedia students following the development of a series of websites and multimedia applications
over the course of 2009.
Demonstrated recently at Chisholm Cranbournes annual Multimedia Showcase, the projects were
developed by four teams from the 11 students involved.
Along with the production of a promotional DVD for the Grantville Rifle Range, these real world
projects included websites for St. Judes Catholic Church Parish in Langwarrin, the Mount Martha
Tennis Club and St.Macartans Primary School in Mornington.
Containing impressive functionality and efficiency, each product was carefully designed to reflect
the brand, business and local symbolism of each organisation.
Bob Hanna, from the Grantville Rifle Range, said that the DVD was as good as any you would get
anywhere.
All we wanted was a promotional DVD that would entice people to thinking we might give target
shooting a try. We believe it delivers that objective.
These three boys had to think outside the square and be adaptive, so the end result is really a
great job.
Mrs Christine Congdon from St. Judes Parish, noted how the new website helps the church get out
to a wider range of people.
It was fantastic to see the project develop from concept to final product. The students were very
very good and did everything that we asked of them; and more. It was excellent, she said.
John Bell, who worked on the St.Judes team, related how he had come to Chisholm seeking a
career change from the Real Estate industry.
Chisholm has been fantastic, he said. The main thing with Chisholm is that theyve got an open
door policy with the teachers and thats the main thing I suppose that differentiates us from
university.
The staff are very good and very friendly so Ive enjoyed doing what Im doing.
Program Coordinator Michele Hardy explained that most organisations approach Chisholm with
project proposals, so each project is assessed to ensure it fits the pre-determined criteria for
students.
Once final decisions are made students are given the details and contacts and they take it from
there. They compile a design brief, liaise with clients and provide progress reports, she said.
