DAVID AGAINST GOLIATH-AUSTRALIAN OWNED REDSPOT CAR RENTALS WINS

NEW AIRPORT BUSINESS

The Australian family -owned Redspot Car Rentals is making new inroads into the nation's $2.5 billion
rental vehicle market as it concentrates on traffic at airports.

Redspot's relevance to car rental and airport business markets has just advanced with the opening of
its latest car rental desk in Perth's Qantas domestic terminal. By July when Redspot opens a rental
desk in the Qantas domestic terminal of Melbourne Airport, it will have a comprehensive network to
service Qantas passenger arrivals at the nation's major airports.

Redspot Car Rentals is the only Australian-owned independent car rental company with locations at
major airports across Australia. It recently celebrated 20 years in the industry.

Australian owners and operators, Dan and Simone Mekler, say their car rental business has never
been busier than during last year's global financial crisis, with national sales increasing by 33 per cent.

They found themselves during the GFC in a position of unprecedented demand, increasingly attracting
budget-conscious travellers and small-to-medium businesses with a rapidly increasing demand for
economical travel.

Redspot had its origins in 1989 at the Mekler's garage in Waterloo, NSW, with two second-hand cars
a Holden Ute and a Ford Laser - offered for rent as an add-on extension to selling petrol.

Today Redspot has a national fleet of nearly 2,000 cars and 4 per cent of the airport market with a
turnover of $25 million.

The company offers customers something unique in this industry: an all-in-one price that includes no-
excess insurance.

Redspot has always challenged standard industry practices. It pitches itself as a no-frills, low-cost
alternative to the big international conglomerates, by simplifying and demystifying the car rental
process and by offering up-front charges that are still applicable when the car is returned. Redspot
has even fitted electronic toll road tags to its entire fleet of vehicles so that its customers will never
receive a fine from a toll road operator. Redspot offers its customers the convenience of unlimited
use of all Australian toll roads for a nominal fee ".

Mekler says, "In many ways, we are the Virgin Blue of the car rental industry. Red Spot has
introduced competition within a market that was a closed shop for many years.

"During difficult financial times, people just naturally look for a better deal, especially those who hate
all the add-ons charged by larger operators for various services. Those extras can push the final cost
well beyond the initial quote."

Mekler's approach explains Redspot's slogan: " No funny business, just serious car business".

As a mark of its increasing presence, Redspot has just replaced Thrifty as Channel 7 Sunrise's exclusive
car rental partner.
