MEDIA RELEASE:

12 November 2009 - For Immediate

Release

Former AAT Australia CEO appointed

on the new Tax Practitioners Board

The Association of Accounting Technicians (AAT) Australia has welcomed the announcement of

the Tax Practitioners Board and is looking forward to it addressing the many challenges that will

confront it with the commencement of the new legislation early in 2010.

AAT Australia also acknowledges and formally congratulates Mr. Roger Cotton on his

appointment to the Board.

Mr. Cotton has many links with AAT Australia. He was the founder and first CEO of AAT Australia

from 2002 until Mr. Robert Comelli was appointed in 2007, and whilst standing down in his

active role as CEO, he maintained his support serving as a director on the AAT Australia Board

until his recent retirement from the CEO position at the National Institute of Accountants

to

focus on other challenges.

Mr Comelli, AAT Australia CEO acknowledges Roger’s appointment; “on behalf of AAT Australia

members and our Board, I would like to congratulate Roger on his selection. Roger will be an

asset to the new Board and we look forward to a supportive and productive relationship with the

Board and administration of the new national entity.” Roger’s commitment and his considerable

commercial experience will be a major asset to the Board and the emerging paraprofessional

accounting industry.

AAT Australia has

the

full support from the three major professional accounting bodies (the

National Institute of Accountants, CPA Australia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in

Australia). These organisations are continuing their

support of AAT Australia and provide

valuable direction and advice through the participation of the CEO’s from each body on the AAT

Australia Board.

With the establishment of the Board, AAT Australia is now looking forward to working closely

with the Tax Practitioners Board administration addressing the formidable challenges

establishing the new regulatory regime for self employed bookkeepers.  AAT Australia intends to

formalise its participation in the regulatory process and relationship with the Board by becoming

a recognised Tax Agent Association to further support its members.
