Former Transfield CEO Appointed to Save the Children Board
Former Transfield Services CEO, Peter Watson, was today announced as Save the Children Australia's newest Board recruit.
Mr Watson stated that he was "honoured to take on the role and assist the organisation in its quest for renewal and growth."
"Children hold the key to our future, yet in my travels around the world I have seen first hand that many of them are tragically without food, shelter, health care and education."
"Even in our own backyard there are children living in fear of violence, abuse and exploitation."
"As a father of two, I strongly believe that every child deserves the right to realise their dreams and live a life of hope and opportunity."
"I feel very privileged to be able to work with Save the Children in ensuring this is a reality."
Mr Watson commenced with Transfield Services in 1984 and was appointed Managing Director and CEO in 2002. During his 25 years with the company, he played an integral role in its successful development and led Transfield through a rapid global growth phase. Following listing on the ASX in 2001, the company grew under Mr Watson's leadership from 4,800 employees and $600 million in revenue, to 29,000 employees and revenue approaching $4 billion.
"Peter is an experienced business man who has operated at the most senior level of Australian corporate life, so we are delighted to have his skills and expertise on board to steer us into the future," said Brian Hartzer, Chair of Save the Children Australia's Board of Directors and ANZ's Chief Executive Officer, Australia.
"He has been a leader in inspiring innovation and we look forward to his contribution as we strive to improve the lives of disadvantaged children in Australia and our wider region."
Peter Watson's appointment as Board Member will become effective from 28th May, 2009
