GET INSPIRED, BECOME HAPPY IN 2010 AND CREATE A WORLD OF

DIFFERENCE

00.01am 1 January 2010, Sydney – The Vodafone Foundation Australia is offering five dream

opportunities, complete with full salary and expense accounts, for five passionate, community-

spirited people who believe they can make a ‘World of Difference’ in 2010.

Vodafone’s World of Difference program invites extraordinary Australians to apply for a special

grant to develop and pursue their personal philanthropic ambitions.

Vodafone World of Difference ambassador and seven-time World Surfing Champion, Layne

Beachley, said: “It’s easy to say that we’d like to make the world a better place, but for most of us,

time and money are the biggest barriers. World of Difference is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to

dedicate an entire year to the charity or cause of your choice.”

“If you’re passionate about a cause, but have always been held back by the realities of day-to-day

living expenses and financial commitments, Vodafone’s World of Difference could enable you to

live your dream – and create your dream job – by making a positive, personal contribution to a

charity or not-for-profit organisation.”

Layne Beachley believes that her own personal happiness is deeply rooted in her own efforts to

create happiness in the community. Beachley’s personal view is supported by the research and

findings of ‘Happiness Psychologist’, Aleks Srbinoski.

“In the eternal search for happiness, most people agree that money can’t buy happiness, but

Vodafone’s World of Difference program taps into one of the five golden rules for a happy life: Be

generous of spirit and give willingly to others, explains Srbinoski.

“Recent interest rate hikes and a long, hard year at work has left many Australians with a bad case

of the grumps, said Srbinoski. “My message to people is that happiness is in your own hands. It’s a

New Year and the perfect time to make some proactive changes to put yourself on the right course

for a happier, more fulfilling life. Giving your time to help others not only increases their happiness,

it helps you as much or more.”

The Vodafone Foundation is calling for entries in the 2010 World of Difference program. World of

Difference candidates are invited to submit their applications at

www.vodafone.com.au/worldofdifference. Applicants should include a summary of their nominated

charity or not-for-profit organisation, plus details of their own personal goals and aspirations for

their chosen charity or cause in 2010. Entries close on 7 February 2010. A specially-appointed

Foundation panel will select five successful participants in March, 2010. The Vodafone Foundation

will then pay the five participants’ salaries (up to $50,000 each) and expenses (up to $25,000 each)

for the next 12 months.

“We’re looking for people who are going to make a real difference with a positive, personal

contribution to their charity,” continued Layne Beachley. “Our past winners have not only

demonstrated the power of positive change, but also showed how determination and dedication to

a worthy organisation or cause can change not only one life, but the lives of hundreds and

sometimes thousands of people.”
