Leighton Contractors to build ABC Queensland headquarters
Leighton Contractors has been appointed Project Manager for the design and construction of the new, architecturally designed Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) headquarters in Brisbane, including television and radio studios.
Leighton Contractors has extensive experience in delivering sustainable and cost effective buildings on time and within budget around Australia, including Green Square Corporate Park in Brisbane's Fortitude Valley and the ABC headquarters in Sydney.
The new Queensland headquarters will be located on the corner of Grey and Russell Streets at South Bank.
Darren Weir, General Manager, Leighton Contractors Northern Region said the team was looking forward to constructing another world-class `green' building and pushing the boundaries in sustainable development.
"We are very pleased to be managing the design and construction of this important, creative building for our national broadcaster," Mr Weir said.
"The ABC is aiming for a benchmark broadcasting centre which is efficient in energy use, environmentally friendly and effective in adaptability to the changing media landscape.
"We are looking forward to delivering such a building which is expected to increase productivity and reduce current operational costs."
Design is underway and construction is due to commence early in 2010, with completion and commissioning in mid to late 2011.
