Energy Breakthrough celebrates 20 years
AUSTRALIAs only Green Grand Prix, RACVs Energy Breakthrough, is
celebrating its 20th
year as this countrys
premier science, technology and
environment event.
RACV General Manager, Public Policy, Brian Negus said the event offered a
unique combination of entertainment and education in an exciting atmosphere
similar to a major international motor racing meeting.
It regularly attracts more than 6000 participants, 160 schools and 12,000 spectators
to witness the four-days of activities and races in which students aged from 9-19
years use push, pedal and pilot carts, human power and hybrid vehicles in races
from a few minutes long to a 24-hr endurance race.
The event has also attracted international participants, with a team from Britain
competing last year and a New Mexico team taking part in 2008.
A lunch celebrating the event will be held at RACV City Club.
Students from several participating schools will be in attendance. Two
Energy Breakthrough vehicles built by students will be on display. A student
who participated in the first Energy Breakthrough event 20 years ago will be
available to discuss how the event impacted on his life.
