QSR Launches NVivo 8 Teaching Grants Totaling US$20,000

BOSTON, May 20/Medianet International-AsiaNet/ --

QSR International today launched an NVivo Teaching Grant Program, offering
two grants of US$10,000 each to academics teaching qualitative research methods
in American and Canadian universities.

QSR International CEO John Owen said the grants were available under a new
pilot scheme designed to help universities and colleges to incorporate
qualitative data analysis software into undergraduate and graduate courses.

"Qualitative research software is used in every major university in the US,
Europe and Australasia, but it's not always in the curricula," he said.

"We think this is a great way to assist academics, who often struggle for
funds to implement new course content, and the research industry, which will
benefit from having students trained in the latest technology enter the
workplace."

Mr Owen said two grants of US$10,000 each were available to full time
professors working in academic institutions in the United States or Canada.
Each grant can be put towards NVivo 8 Software Licenses, NVivo 8 Workbooks,
NVivo 8 Teachers' Handbooks and QSR hosted training and support services during
the 2009 Fall Semester.

"The grants will enable academics to incorporate our NVivo 8 software into
their existing qualitative research methods courses for a semester or more,
allowing students to learn how to use software to analyze and evaluate
qualitative data, with dedicated support and training resources in place," said
Mr Owen.

NVivo 8 allows users to upload and analyze video, audio, images and text
side-by-side.  In the research field, it's used for a wide range of research
methods, from literature reviews and ethnography, to grounded theory, discourse
analysis and mixed methods research. The software, and its previous versions -
NVivo 7, NVivo 2 and N6 (NUD*IST) - are used by academic, commercial and
government organizations in more than 150 countries.

Application details for the NVivo Teaching Grant Program can be found at
on 30 June 2009. Applications will be assessed by a panel of industry experts,
including Judith Davidson, Assistant Professor at the University of
Massachusetts-Lowell; Raewyn Bassett, Assistant Professor at Dalhousie
University; and Cynthia Jacobs, Regional Manager of Training and Research
Consultancy Americas, QSR International.
