Raritan Introduces KVM Switches with Integrated 17-inch LCD Display and Unique 'Cat5 Simplicity'
Cables for Easy Server Management
TOKYO, Dec. 14 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ --
- Flexible configurations for secure consolidated server access when working
at the rack and for 'lights-out' server rooms -
Raritan today added two new cost-effective KVM (keyboard, video, mouse) switches to its server
management product line targeted at small and midsize server rooms and data centers. Featuring an easy-
to-view, built-in 17-inch industrial display, the new TMCAT17 LCD KVM switch controls multiple servers from a
single console -- giving administrators added flexibility on where and how they work to setup, administer and
maintain rack-mounted servers.
"The 8-port and 16-port TMCAT17 models are the perfect solutions for affordable, centralized management
of multi-platform servers," said Hugo Lin, Product Manager at Raritan. "They save time and streamline server
management by eliminating the need to run from server rack to rack. Our new switches provide more options
to administrators."
Two users can conduct simultaneous and independent KVM sessions with the new TMCAT17 LCD KVM
switch. One user can access and troubleshoot multiple servers using the TMCAT17's LCD console that is
integrated in the 1U rack-mounted switch. The second user can be located further away using an optional
workstation connected to the TMCAT17, using Cat5 cable. The workstation -- which can be placed up to 650
feet from the KVM switch without degrading video quality -- could be placed in an IT administrator's office, for
example, or another location for lights-out access to IT equipment.
For fast and easy connections to servers, TMCAT17 LCD KVM provides Cat5 Simplicity(TM) cables --
which are fixed-length Cat5 UTP cable with CIMs (Computer Interface Modules) for connecting servers within
20 feet of the switch.
The TMCAT17 delivers BIOS-level control -- even if the target server's operating system is not responding --
and enhanced security through a direct KVM network connection. Another benefit of KVM centralized
management is the elimination of extra keyboards, monitors and mice - which helps reduce room clutter and
saves in rack space and power consumption. TMCAT17's "keep-alive" technology allows users to add,
remove and hot swap components without interruption to the live servers.
The new switches deliver high video resolution of up to 1280 x 1024 and multi-language keyboard support,
including English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese and Japanese.
Two Available Models
The two-user TMCAT1728 model supports up to eight servers simultaneously, and the two-user
TMCAT17216 supports up to 16 servers. Both units can scale to support up to 256 servers, by using the
cascading capabilities of Raritan's MasterConsole(R) CAT series.
