Company to hold Grand Opening unreserved public equipment auction at new

16.5-acre site and conduct free "How to Buy" seminars for interested buyers

Ritchie Bros. Auctioneers (NYSE and TSX: RBA), the world's largest industrial auctioneer, will be

celebrating the Grand Opening of its first permanent auction site in Japan (located at Taragai 245-2771, Narita

starting at 9 a.m. (local time). An official ribbon cutting ceremony will also be held at the Narita auction site on

"This is the first permanent auction site to be opened by Ritchie Bros.

Auctioneers in Japan and our 40th auction site to be developed globally. We

will be conducting regular auctions at the Narita site starting with the

January 27th sale," said Mike Scott, Area Manager, Ritchie Bros. "These

auctions will be unreserved meaning items will be sold with no minimum bids,

reserve prices or buybacks. The bidding crowd sets the prices on equipment on

auction day with every item being sold to the highest bidder. Holding these

unreserved public auctions in Narita will provide Japanese sellers with the

opportunity to sell their equipment to a global marketplace. Local buyers will

also benefit from our unreserved auctions by having greater access to the

equipment they need at fair market prices."

Equipment items currently consigned in the January 27th Narita auction

include: 50 unused 2008 New Holland TL5060 MFWD agricultural tractors, as well

as hydraulic excavators, crawler tractors and wheel loaders. Equipment is

consignments are still being accepted; owners interested in selling their

equipment in the auction can contact the Narita auction site at +81.476.490811

to make arrangements.

Items in the auction will be sold in Yen using the Company's proprietary

Virtual Ramp auction method. Items will be projected onto a large screen in

front of a bidding crowd seated inside a 570-seat auction theater located at

the Narita auction site. The theater is the first virtual-only auction theater

in the Company and part of 24,509-square foot on-site auction facility that

also includes office space and a check-in area for customer registration. The

16.5-acre Narita auction site, completely developed, also features an

additional facility for washing equipment.

auction can bid in person at the Narita auction site on auction day or online

in real time through the Ritchie Bros. web site at www.rbauction.com or by
