SALISBURY PRIVATE NURSING HOME
RESPONDS TO CORONERS INQUEST
For Release: Immediate
Salisbury Private Nursing Home was deeply saddened by the tragic passing of Hayden Childs
and again we express our sincere condolences to his family.
Executive Officer Salisbury Private Nursing Home Mr Barry Lowe said the homes management
accepted the State Coroners findings.
We accept the State Coroners findings and are supportive of his recommendations, Mr Lowe said.
We believe it is incumbent upon us to put some issues on the public record, he said. As
presented to the Coroner we are still of the opinion that the recruitment agency we contracted were
deficient in the training of their staff, and accordingly we do not use that organisation any more.
Following the tragic passing away of Mr Childs we were independently reviewed on three separate
occasions by state and federal bodies. On each occasion Salisbury Private Nursing Home was found
not to have been in breach of any requirements, standards or laws.
However, as presented to the Coroner, we also conducted our own review and made significant
changes as a result of that review. It is important to state however, that these changes are not state or
federal requirements but out as a result of our own commitment to a higher quality standard of care,
we have implemented these changes, Mr Lowe said.
