TNT Australia Press Release

TNT redirects 747 to Manila with 100MT of food bought by Australian Government

On 17 October 2009, TNT in partnership with The United Nations World Food Programme (WFP), delivered 100 MT of high-energy biscuits to Manila, following the recent Typhoon disaster. The Boeing 747 was redirected from its usual route (Liege Hong Kong) to Turkey where the food support was loaded up. A second batch of biscuits was also delivered on 24 October 2009.

The biscuits are full of essential vitamins and minerals and will also be used in supplementary feeding programs to enhance the nutritional health of pregnant women, nursing mothers and children under five years of age. The Australian Government recently donated AUD$2 million to WFP and part of these funds were used to purchase the biscuits.

"This recent initiative from TNT is just one of many projects that we are undertaking on a global basis in support of our longstanding partnership with the WFP. Locally, our staff at TNT Australia continue to work tirelessly fundraising for this very important organisation and the work it conducts in Cambodia. It is very encouraging to see such a strong commitment from the Australian Government to the WFP and we look forward to exploring any partnership opportunities for TNT Australia and AusAID in the future" said Bob Black, Managing Director TNT Australia, NZ and Pacific Islands.
