Zeebo China and China Digital TV Sign Agreement to Deliver Interactive Learning, Wireless Internet and
More to Chinese Consumers
HANGZHOU, China, Oct. 29 /PRNewswire-AsiaNet/ --
Zeebo China Demonstrates Digital Education and Entertainment System at the
ICTC in Hangzhou, Zhejiang China
Zeebo China today announced that it has signed an exclusive agreement
with China Digital TV Holding Co., Ltd. ("China Digital TV") (NYSE: STV), a
leading provider of conditional access (CA) systems to China's rapidly
expanding digital television market. Zeebo China is Zeebo (Shanghai)
Information Technology Co., Ltd., an independent business entity established
by Zeebo, Inc. in China.
Under the agreement the two companies will jointly deliver an integrated
digital education, Internet and entertainment platform supporting 3G wireless
access for China's cable television customers. This platform will enable
Chinese consumers to connect their Zeebo-equipped televisions and set-top
boxes to the Internet, download interactive learning applications and enjoy
high-definition media content.
At today's International Coverage and Transmission Conference (ICTC), a
premier event in China's television broadcasting industry, Zeebo China
demonstrated its own product ("the Zeebo"), a 3G network-connected terminal
device, working in conjunction with existing digital set-top boxes. The Zeebo
provides a number of wireless services, including affordable Internet
connectivity, downloading of localized applications and other content,
communications, and social networking.
"As we explore the huge market potential for Zeebo in China, working
closely with China Digital TV enables us to implement an effective, focused
launch strategy," said John F. Rizzo, president and CEO, Zeebo, Inc. "There
is an enormous base of cable TV subscribers in China, including more than 75
million installed set-top boxes across the country, with the number expected
to hit 250 million by 2015. China Digital TV holds a dominant position in
China's CA market, and the company's technology expertise and close
relationships with set-top box makers and hundreds of cable network operators
will be essential as we move forward to integrate the Zeebo platform in
Chinese televisions and set-top boxes."
"We are committed to delivering a high quality, interactive family
experience that is more extensive and efficient than current television and
set-top box capabilities," Rizzo continued. "We intend to collaborate with
China Digital TV to offer Zeebo's signature 'Learn, Connect, Play' service
featuring culturally relevant content created by Chinese developers. The
Zeebo model will establish a new roadmap for the development of digital TV
and a perfect fit with the massive new 3G deployments in China affording
consumers a whole new set of exciting digital services and providing cable
operators with a new source of revenue."
"China Digital TV and Zeebo will make a great team," said Dong Li,
president, China Digital TV. "As the trend toward network convergence
continues to accelerate in China, there is a strong consumer demand for
convenient access to content across multiple media platforms and via
different networks. We believe our collaboration with Zeebo China directly
satisfies this growing market need, and reaffirms our commitment to create
and market products that allow consumers to enjoy high quality content
anytime, anywhere. We expect to see this cooperation generate significant
market opportunities in the future."
"High on the priority list of Chinese consumers is finding affordable
ways to capture the power of the Internet and digital media," said David
Wolf, CEO of Wolf Group Asia, a management advisory firm providing strategic
counsel to technology, media, entertainment, and telecommunications companies
in Greater China and the Asia-Pacific region. "The combination of Zeebo and
China Digital TV will create a virtuous ecosystem to deliver digital media
that is brilliantly suited to the Chinese market."
