CAPITALISM: A MORAL DEFENCE - BY AYN RAND INSTITUTE HEAD - IN SYDNEY OCTOBER 11TH
Sydney.
Dr Yaron Brook, President and Executive Director of The Ayn Rand Institute, will give a
talk titled "Capitalism without Guilt: the Moral Case for Freedom" On October 11th at the City
Tattersalls Club in Sydney.
Capitalism has an undisputed record of wealth generation, yet it has always functioned under a
cloud of moral suspicion.
In his first public address in Australia, Dr. Brook will demonstrate how Ayn Rand's revolutionary
ethics of rational self-interest supply the moral foundation that previous proponents of capitalism
lacked. Dr. Brook will explain why individual rights are crucial for capitalism's survival - why
productivity and profit, the "selfish greed" that both conservatives and progressives abhor, are not
vices but cardinal virtues.

Background:
Ayn Rand was born 105 years ago, but her philosophy of reason and freedom continues to inspire
thousands. A Library of Congress survey found her novel Atlas Shrugged to be the second most
influential book on peoples lives. Recently Atlas Shrugged topped Amazons classics bestseller list.
Rands other popular novel, The Fountainhead, was made into a film starring Gary Cooper.
In America, commentators routinely note the parallels between the events portrayed in Atlas
Shrugged, and the current significant expansion of government control of the economy. As a further
mark of Ayn Rands growing influence in the US, there are now over 60 BB&T university programs for
the study of capitalism based on her ideas.
Dr Brook is a frequent guest on radio and television programs and a columnist at Forbes.com. Last
year, Dr Brook took part in a debate entitled 'This House Blames the Bankers' organised by Oxford
University's Oxford Union, which for 182 years has hosted debates by prominent figures from
around the world. Dr Brooks opposition team won by a very convincing 131 votes to 51. Also last
year, he received a standing ovation at the Virginia Republican State Convention with his speech
criticising the party for contributing to the erosion of individual rights in America. ###
