Al Habtoor Murray & Roberts Takenaka JV awarded

7 December 2008
The Al Habtoor Murray & Roberts Takenaka (HMRT) Joint Venture has been
awarded an AED 4.9 billion (A$2 billion) contract for the construction of Dubai
Airports new Concourse 3 for Dubais Department of Civil Aviation (DCA).
The project is worth AED 2 billion (A$800 million) to the Al Habtoor Leighton Group.
Concourse 3 will be connected to the two major public levels of Terminal 3 via an automated
people mover (APM) in addition to the vehicular and baggage handling system utility tunnels.
The building, which follows the characteristic shape of Concourse 2, will be 645 metres long,
90 metres wide and 42 metres high in the centre from the apron level, and will accommodate
20 aircraft stands, 18 of which will accommodate Airbus new A380.
The concourse will include one four-star and one five-star hotel, first- and business-class
lounges, and duty-free areas. The total built-up area will be 528,000 square metres.
Work will commence immediately, with completion scheduled for the end of April 2011.
The HMRT Joint Ventures successful delivery of the recently opened Terminal 3 and
adjoining Concourse 2 at the same airport was instrumental in HMRT securing this new
project.
A spokesman for the HMRT Joint Venture said the award of the new concourse was a tribute
to the performance of HMRT.
Dubai airport is the key aviation hub in the Gulf region and one of the most important
airports in the world, and we are delighted to be playing a key role in its continued
development, he said.
Our success on Terminal 3 and Concourse 2, which was successfully opened in October
this year and has been operating extremely efficiently, was a key factor in the joint venture
securing Concourse 3.
The DCAs awarding of this contract to HMRT is a clear endorsement of the quality of our
work and reflects their faith in our ability to deliver a quality mega-project on time and within
budget, the spokesman said.
The Al Habtoor - Murray & Roberts partnership has a long history with Dubai Airport, being
responsible for the construction of Sheikh Rashid Terminal, commonly referred to as
Terminal 1. It has also been responsible for associated projects including the Airport Expo
Centre, the Flower Centre, and the chalets for the Dubai Air Show.
The Joint Venture comprises Al Habtoor Engineering (40%), Murray & Roberts (40%), and
Takenaka (20%).
