Expert comment on Channel 10 raid –

Speculation is widespread that James Packer is the mystery buyer responsible for

a share market raid on Channel Ten overnight.

More than 163 million Network Ten shares were traded after the market closed

yesterday afternoon, giving the unidentified trader a 15.6 per cent stake in the

company.

RMIT University academic and media commentator, Dr Vincent O’Donnell, is

available for interview.

“This move could signal a return to the traditional media interests of the Packer

family, which have served them well for generations,” Dr O’Donnell says.

“It may be an indication they are looking to turn back to assets businesses, having

focused so heavily in recent years on the largely cash flow business of gambling.”

Dr O’Donnell is an honorary fellow in RMIT’s School of Media and Communication.

He is a past president of the Producers and Directors Guild of Victoria and a former

executive producer at Film Victoria.

Kaszubska, (03) 9925 3176 or 0417 510 735.
