NEW GENERAL INSURANCE OMBUDSMAN APPOINTED
Melbourne lawyer John Price was today appointed General Insurance Ombudsman for the national
Financial Ombudsman Service.
Announcing the appointment, Chair of the Board of the Financial Ombudsman Service Professor
the Hon. Michael Lavarch said Mr Price will bring to the role a wealth of alternative dispute
resolution experience and general insurance industry expertise.
"We are pleased to attract an Ombudsman of the calibre of John Price, who has served as
Referee, Adjudicator and Panel Chair with the Financial Ombudsman Service for the past five
years," Professor Lavarch said.
"John is well-known in the industry and will play a key role in building on the strong foundation we
have in place with the single amalgamated Financial Ombudsman Service."
John Price has had a distinguished career in law and legal training in Victoria for over 30 years and
has served as a director of State Trustees Ltd and the Chairman of State Trustees Australia
Foundation.
The Financial Ombudsman Service serves the community and industry by resolving disputes
between consumers and financial services providers in a way people can trust and feel confident
about the outcome.
