Originality and cost of Melbourne City's new logo questioned

25 Jul 2009, Sydney Australia website DesignBay.com has discovered questions over the originality of Melbourne's new logo have been raised.

DesignBay (www.DesignBay.com), a global design marketplace based in Sydney, has found that questions over the originality of Melbourne City's newly designed $240,000 logo have been raised and that the project could have been completed for as little as $35,000.

DesignBay has discovered that a Canadian designer has drawn comparisons between the Melbourne City logo and a logo he designed and had published in LogoLounge Vol.3 in 2006. DesignBay analysis has found that the Melbourne City logo shares 3 similarities with the logo designed by the Canadian designer but that the logos also include some discernable differences.

DesignBay analysis also estimates that the project could have been completed for $35,000 using a combination of a public design contest and reduced input from the design agency used by Melbourne City.
