MEDIA RELEASE FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Affordable hotspots: close to
bright lights
October 11, 2010
When Australian Property Investor journalist Nicole Navarro was given the task of
finding property priced under $400,000 within 20 kilometres of our capital cities, she
feared it would be a mission impossible.
Not so. Navarro has turned up 25 affordable hotspots within easy reach of the bright
lights.
Dwelling and location expectations may need to change when searching for
properties under $400,000 and still within 20 kilometres of the closest capital city but
the mission is certainly possible, she said.
Hobart tops the list, followed by Adelaide and Darwin.
According to RP Data, Hobart is the most affordable capital city in Australia, with
two-thirds (66.7 per cent) of its units and houses selling for under $400,000 within 20
kilometres of the CBD, in the year to July, Navarro said.
Adelaide had almost half of its sold properties (45.6 per cent) in this category,
followed by Darwin (26.8 per cent), Brisbane and Perth (both 26 per cent),
Melbourne (23.5 per cent), Canberra (21.6 per cent) and Sydney (18.3 per cent).
Among the 25 affordable hotspots identified within 20 kilometres of a capital are:
Craigie, WA
Broadmeadows, Vic
Watson, ACT
Yagoona, NSW
New Town, Tas
Nightcliff, NT
Herston, Qld
