Bushfire Construction Regulations came into effect today
Building Amendment (Bushfire Construction) Further Interim Regulations 2009 came into effect
today, 1 September 2009.
The Regulations only apply to the rebuilding of a dwelling in the fire affected areas where a
Wildfire Management Overlay (WMO) applies. They require:
a dedicated fire fighting static water supply with CFA fittings
access for emergency vehicles.
Building Commissioner, Tony Arnel, said the Regulations are a result of the devastating 2009
bushfires and have been developed by the Government to ease the red tape burden that would
ordinarily apply to reconstructing homes damaged or destroyed by the recent bushfires.
The Regulations replicate what would have been required under the WMO if planning permit
exemptions had not been granted, Mr Arnel said.
The WMO implemented important technical aspects of bushfire safety for developing land in a
WMO.
These aspects of bushfire safety can be applied through the building permit system.
