ABS retail sales up 0.3% in October 2009: ABS
The latest ABS retail trade figures show that sales in October rose 0.3%, seasonally
adjusted, compared with a fall of 0.2% the previous month.
Sales rose, in seasonally adjusted terms, for Department Stores (1.9%), Cafes,
Restaurants & Takeaway Food Services (1.1%) and Household Goods Retailing (0.1%).
Sales in Clothing, Footwear & Other Personal Accessory Retailing (-0.2%), Food Retailing
(-0.1%) and Other Retailing (-0.1%) all fell in October 2009.
The Northern Territory (1.8%) recorded the largest increase in sales, followed by
Tasmania (1.5%), New South Wales (1.2%) and Western Australia (0.9%). Sales fell in
Victoria (-0.9%), the Australian Capital Territory (-0.6%) and Queensland (-0.2%) and
South Australia was unchanged in October.
Trend turnover for October 2009 rose 0.2%.
