Smaller is better this Christmas

Apple iPod Nano, Tom Tom 'One Start' and Samsung ES 15 Digital Camera 2009 top sellers

The verdict is in. Christmas shoppers can't get enough Apple iPod Nanos, Tom Tom 'One Start' in-car navigators and Samsung ES 15 Digital Cameras this festive season.

These items are flying off the shelves in stores across Australia. The top 10 best-selling items at Dick Smith this Christmas are:
1. Apple iPod Nano (8 GB)
2. Tom Tom 'One Start'
3. Samsung ES 15 Digital Camera
4. Sony Playstation 3, Slim 120GB Console
5. Nintendo Wii Console
6. Sanyo 32 inch LCD TV
7. Compaq Presario Notebook
8. Nokia E63 Mobile Phone
9. Flip Mini Pocket Sized HD Camcorder
10. Thomson Micro HiFi with iPod dock

"Across the board, it seems to be that smaller is better when it comes to Christmas gifts this year," said Debra Singh, General Manager, Dick Smith.

"Many of the items on the best-sellers list in 2009 such as the iPod Nano, the Tom Tom 'One Start,' the Samsung ES 15 and the Flip Mini HD Camcorder are small enough to use anywhere, anytime. These make a great gift option for a range of ages.

"The most popular products this year have mirrored trends in 2008 despite the GFC. The 8GB Apple iPod Nano was one of last year's favourites and easily topped the list again this year.

Our statistics also show that competitively priced digital cameras are also a popular option each year," Singh said.

Avid gamers will also be overjoyed at what they find under the tree this Christmas, with the Sony Playstation 3 and the Nintendo Wii console finishing in the top five.

"We have some great package deals available in store on these consoles, as well as the XBOX 360. Gaming has really become an activity that can be enjoyed by the whole family, making it an ideal family gift this Christmas," Singh said.

Interestingly, the Nintendo Wii Fit and the PhotoView Keychain have fallen off the Christmas best-sellers list this year with consumers opting for the Flip Mini HD Camcorder and Compaq Presario Notebook instead.

With items selling fast, Debra Singh said customers can visit the Dick Smith website at www.dicksmith.com.au to check availability of products in stores. She added that altered holiday trading hours can be found on the website for those who require a last minute dash for gifts.

"Our customers can call their local store if they have any questions or enquiries, or stop in and talk to one of our friendly Techxperts for advice this Christmas," Singh said.
