MEDIA RELEASE
26 November 2008
Super A-Mart continues Western Australian expansion
with Cockburn
Furniture and bedding retailer, Super A-Mart, will tomorrow open its second Western
Australian store in as many months.
The 6,000 square metre store at Cockburn is the second in a six store national
expansion program being rolled out over a nine month period.
Chief Executive Officer, Mr Eddie MacDonald, said the Western Australian market
had already presented advantages for the Queensland-based company.
"We opened our first Western Australian store at Osborne Park in September and it
is already outperforming all of our other stores," Mr MacDonald said.
"The opening of this 5,000 square metre store was the most successful in the
company's history, and Osborne Park continues to outperform our other stores.
"The strength of the Western Australian market has helped us perform well, despite
the recent downturn in the national retail market."
Super A-Mart plans to open five more stores in Western Australia by the end of 2010,
with the next one to open in Cannington on 15 December 2008, a 6,400 square
metre store.
By the end of the year, the company's total investment in the West Australian market
will have reached $15 million.
Mr MacDonald said Super A-Mart's continued expansion into Western Australia is a
key part of the company's strategic plan to build its national store network.
"Our successful entry into the Western Australian market has provided a strong
platform for our national expansion," Mr MacDonald said.
"We are aiming to open three more stores across the country by mid-2009, two in
South Australia and one in Queensland."
